On October 16th the Grizzlies came to Milwaukee, and left with yet another win under their preseason belts. Memphis simply outplayed the Bucks in a 91-77 route of the home team.
Rudy Gay put up17 points in the contest, showing fans why the team invested the money into keeping him with the team this off season. Darrell Arthur, and Mike Conley both added 14 points, and Marc Gasol hit 10 points throughout the contest. Drew Gooden managed 13 points for the Bucks which lead the team in scoring, Brandon Jennings, and Chris Douglas-Roberts tied for a close second place, however the Bucks simply couldn’t get any real momentum going.
Both teams started strong, and after the first quarter The Grizzlies led by only a single point. While Memphis had managed to open the point gap in the second quarter with their hard play the Bucks came roaring back to tie the score in the third quarter. This show of adversity however seemed to bring the best out of a Grizzlies. Shortly after the Bucks rallied for the tie Memphis started firing on all cylinders. Not only did the Grizzlies reclaim their four point advantage they added another ten points to it, sending the Bucks to yet another loss in this young season.
In the early going both teams looked strong and competitive, however the Grizzlies looked just a little better. While the Bucks managed to fight their way back into the game after halftime it looked like the third quarter rally wore the team out. After this late surge Milwaukee looked tired and slow for the rest of the contest, while Memphis still looked fresh and crisp.
Judging from this game The Memphis Grizzlies look like they are well on the road to doing everything right this year. They have the talent, and they are play like a team that has play off hopes this year. While many times last year Memphis looked fragmented, so far this year they have presented themselves as a solid team with an identity. The Bucks struggled a lot, and really seemed to lose hope towards then end. They showed the tenacity to stay in the contest through most of the game, but when they needed to surge most they simply faded away. This contest should quiet some of the worries Memphis fans had about roster depth, as the Grizzlies played well on all levels.
